What is Lent?

Lent is a Christian tradition that takes place over the 40 days between Ash Wednesday and Holy Thursday each year in the Christian calendar. During Lent, Christians are called to commit acts of sacrifice and alms giving that honor the sacrifice they believe Jesus made for them, and help draw them closer to God. Some people choose to fast or “give up” certain luxuries, while others add spiritual discipline, such as reading a daily devotional, praying through a Lenten calendar, or giving to others.
