December 28, 2017
**For Immediate Release**
For the first time since its inception, the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry has established a defined geographic service area, focusing its resources on those clients without access to other food assistance programs.
Effective January 1, 2018, the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry will offer assistance to clients only within its Service Area (2018 HRFP Service Area includes zip codes 20105-22124 and 22643-22742). Individuals in need of food assistance who fall outside of the new service area will not be eligible to receive food from the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry.
This is a big change for the food pantry, a place that has opened its doors and provided food to all those in need over the past twelve years. The HRFP Board members do not make this decision lightly. We expect this change will impact approximately seven percent (7%) of our 2017 clients, clients who live in areas served by other food pantries. By defining its service area, the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry will be able to support our hungry neighbors in a more beneficial and sustainable way.
For those impacted by this change, or for more information on other food assistance programs in your area, please see our Alternative Resources Handout (coming soon) or visit the Capital Area Food Bank “Get Help” and entering your city or zip code.
Sincerely,
The Board of Directors
