Celebrating 20 Years: Haymarket Regional Food Pantry Releases 2024 Annual Report

As we enter our 20th year, the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry (HRFP) is proud to share our 2024 Annual Report, highlighting the incredible impact we’ve made together in our community over two decades. This past year has been filled with growth, partnerships and unwavering dedication to our mission:

We are dedicated to eliminating hunger by providing food to those in need in Haymarket, Gainesville and surrounding areas.

A Legacy of Service and Growth

Since our humble beginnings in 2005 as a small food closet at St. Paul’s, we have grown into a vital resource for thousands of people. Over the years, we’ve expanded our services, strengthened partnerships and adjusted our programs to meet the evolving needs of our community. In 2024, we continued this mission by implementing strategic service area adjustments to better support food-insecure individuals and families.

Fighting Food Insecurity in Prince William County

Food insecurity remains a pressing issue, with 43% of residents in Prince William County struggling to access nutritious meals. Our work has been essential in providing relief, with over 552,000 pounds of food distributed, assisting 9,300 households and supporting 40,000 individuals this past year alone.

Programs Making a Difference

Our services extend beyond food distribution. In 2024, HRFP delivered critical support to children through:

  • 150 Cake4Kids, ensuring every child’s birthday is celebrated
  • 267 birthday bags filled with essential party supplies for families in need
  • 2,400 school break snack packs, helping students stay nourished when school is out

Client Growth and Support

The demand for our services has surged, with client numbers doubling year over year. Our "Select Pantry" model, introduced in 2021, continues to empower clients by offering personalized choices to meet their dietary and cultural needs.

Our clients represent a diverse population, with 57% being adults (ages 18-64), 35% children (0-17) and 8% seniors (65+). This year’s report underscores the importance of continued support to ensure no one in our community goes hungry.

Looking Ahead

With the support of our dedicated volunteers, donors and community partners, we remain steadfast in our commitment to fighting food insecurity. As we celebrate 20 years of service, we invite you to join us in our mission – whether through volunteering, donating or spreading awareness.

“We continue to support our mission with our all-volunteer team – just as the founders specified. To celebrate our anniversary year, we will celebrate all of our volunteers from our past, present and future – without whom we could not exist,” said Eileen Smith, Executive Director. “Please join us in our celebrations across the year and thank you, thank you, thank you for your continued generosity. It is because of you that we provide sustenance to our neighbors while simultaneously celebrating.”
